Protection Ratings and Levels
For a glove to be sold as a safety item in Europe, it must first be tested against EN 388 criteria. Please view the information and tables below to find out more.
EN 388
EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves performance when used whilst working in and around mechanical machinery by measuring abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.
The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure a glove in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.
Standard | Resistance Level |
Abrasion Resistance | Level 4 |
Cut Resistance | Level 5 |
Tear Resistance | Level 4 |
Puncture Resistance | Level 3 |
TDM Cut Resistance | Level F |

Suitable Applications and Environments
Kutlass Gloves have a wide range of professional application due to their high cut resistance. Please view the list below for a few examples of these professions and environments:
Incredible Cut Resistance
Level F cut resistance is the highest level available. It indicates that a glove can withstand in excess of an incredible 30 newtons of pressure before showing visible signs of damage. This means the reinforced steel core and four-yarn blend are doing their job protecting your hand against blades, knives, metals and other sharp implements.
What Are the Benefits of a Sandy Nitrile Coating?
Sandy nitrile is a unique coating blend that incorporated a small amount of sand to assist with grip strength in oily and wet conditions. Perfect for abrasion, puncture, cut and slip resistance, sandy nitrile coatings are a common choice for gloves intended for use in oil, gas and metal handling industries and applications.
