Why Wear a Sleeve?
A sleeve is essential wear for anyone handling blades, sharp metals or other incredibly dangerous, jagged material. When worn in combination with a pair of appropriate safety gloves, a sleeve provides protection to the entire arm, meaning in the event of a slip, trip or drop, your arms are protected.
This is especially important for professionals carrying and lugging metal and other sharp material, as the arm is engaged in direct contact with a hazard.
Protection Ratings
Please view the table and information below to see just how a UCi Sleeve can help to protect you against a range of different mechanical hazards:
EN 388
EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves performance when used whilst working in and around mechanical machinery by measuring abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.
The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure the fabric in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.
Standard | Resistance Level |
Abrasion Resistance | Level 1 |
Cut Resistance | N/A |
Tear Resistance | Level 4 |
Puncture Resistance | N/A |
ISO Cut Resistance | Level E |

EN 407
EN 407 regulated garments sold as flame or heat resistant. There are a wide range of tests involved to determine whether or not a product provides a suitable level of protection in high temperature situations.
Standard | Resistance Level |
Burning Resistance | N/A |
Contact Heat Resistance | Level 1 (100°C) |
Convective Heat Resistance | N/A |
Radiant Heat Resistance | N/A |
Resistance to Small Molten Splash | N/A |

Benefits of DuPont Kevlar
Kevlar is a synthetic material manufactured by DuPont. It is a tightly woven collection of aramid fibres that are spun until the bond formed between them is too tight to separate. It is used in cut-resistant clothing and gloves because the lack of gaps between the fibres means a blade cannot easily pierce or puncture it.
Incredible Cut Resistance
The Typhan MWK50-KW Sleeve is designed specifically with cut resistance in mind. The incredible Level E rating awarded and certified under EN 388 means this sleeve can withstand up to 29.9 newtons of downward pressure applied by a sharp implement.
